Our first of 12 monthly collections of cigar statistics is in the books! Drew Estate’s Liga Privada No. 9 owned the bulk of 2016, but it appears Padrón is off to an impressive start for 2017—as the most recent addition to their portfolio, 1926 Serie No. 90 (natural and maduro shades), have claimed a stunning majority of our monthly honors. With this month’s win, a Padrón cigar has now claimed the top monthly honor 4 months straight! In a similarly expected fashion, Fuente claimed the 2nd most honors, with the recently-added Angel’s Share taking the lead for the Dominican titan of premium cigars. Our only real upset for the month was Matilde’s Oscura cigar, taking the Top Affordable Cigar spot for the first time (it’s previous highest ranking was #4 in December, 2015).

Every month, five to twenty cigars are added to the Cigar Wars database in groups of five cigars. Seven days following a group’s debut, we rank each cigar based on its winning percentage after one week in battle. While our established leaderboard uses the Battle Rating score to rank cigars, we use winning percentage to rank Cigars of the Week to avoid the ever-fluctuating battle rankings throughout the week—which we feel are better suited for the day-to-day rankings. Therefore, the weekly rankings won’t be skewed by a single day’s votes when tallying up the scores.

These are the top 5 winning percentages (cigar’s 1st week, debuting in January, 2017) for a single week in battle:
