San Cristóbal de La Habana is a post-embargo Cuban brand. The name is also shared by a Dominican cigar and a pre-embargo Cuban brand, with no ties to either. San Cristóbal de La Habana draws inspiration from Saint Christopher (Columbus) and the original name for the city of Habana—now Havana, Cuba.

When the cigars debuted in 1999, there were 4 sizes, each named for forts that defended the city in the Spanish Colonial era. Additional releases have since launched, receiving names of popular streets fro the same era.
