As any Pete Johnson fan knows, the guy is a sucker for the French wine industry. Here, he has created an homage to the Gold Coast region of France (for which the cigar receives its name) where some of the world's best Burgundy wines are made.
The symbolism behind the name comes from the cigar's rare Pelo de Oro tobaccos used in the fillers. Many L'Atelier cigars use the premium Sancti Spíritus (including this cigar, for the wrapper), which is a hybrid of Pelo de Oro and Criollo seeds. But the Pelo de Oro is actually a more premium leaf with an amazing sweetness and strength. Its disadvantage is in its fickle growing requirements, which yield a very small amount of usable tobaccos each year. This is shared with France's Pinot Noir grapes in the Côte d’Or region.
