RoMa Craft surprised the craft cigar market in 2016, introducing a new blend to be sold exclusively in the German market; partnering with August Schuster GmbH & Co. KG. for distribution. The brand reportedly was the result of a tour through the German market and Schuster family factory in 2015, where RoMa Craft was inspired by certain tobaccos found within the Schuster’s massive tobacco inventory.
Wunder|Lust is a very unique blend, and something completely different for both RoMa Craft Tobac and Nica Sueño. It was inspired by the tobaccos we found in the massive inventory that the Schuster’s maintain in their own factory. We believe we have created a portfolio of four vitollas that will present very proudly in a market dominated by, and consumers who measure their cigars against their experience with, Cuban cigars.
—Skip Martin, RoMa Craft co-founder
Due to the nature of this “mystery tobacco” found within the Schuster inventory, combined with Germany’s large market for Cuban cigars, and the cigar’s exclusion from the U.S., it is often rumored to incorporate Cuban tobaccos within the filler.
The cigar’s name breaks from the brand’s usual use of early man concepts (CroMagnon, Aquitaine, Neanderthal); alluding to RoMa Craft venturing outside the US, combined with the common usage of “wunder” in the German language (meaning “to wish for, desire, strive for, win, love”).
The cigars debuted in late 2015 at exclusive, pre-release events in Germany (using different packaging from the final release cigars). A small release of 10,000 cigars were later shipped to 20 accounts in early 2016. The brand then officially debuted at Germany’s annual Inter-tabac convention (similar to the U.S.’s IPCPR), where the blend became available to a wide range of German accounts. The second shipment was eventually shipped in February, 2017 and is now more easily obtainable for U.S. smokers from online German retailers.
