The ~eccj~ was originally released in 2008 to commemorate Cigar Journal's 15th anniversary, a magazine previously known as the European Cigar Cult Journal (ECCJ). This cigar later became the basis for the brand's popular Epernay line.
In 2015, Illusione released the cigar's sequel—a Short Churchill dubbed ~eccj~ 20th—in commemoration of Cigar Journal's 20th anniversary. For the return to this popular blend for Illusione, they altered the size (from the original's Corona Gorda vitola) and reportedly tweaked the blend, making for what many describe as "an amped-up Epernay".
Finally, in 2016, with FDA regulations looming, Illusione added a third size and converted the entire collection into a regularly produced brand, presiding at the top tier of the company's portfolio.
