In April of 2016, AJF Cigar Co. introduced a small, rothschild cigar, dubbed “Last Call“. These short smokes focused on big flavors and a low price point, vying for a spot cigar smoker’s “late night” lineup. The idea reportedly came about when Fernández took a liking to a certain blend to finish out the 4th quarter of Monday & Thursday Night Football games.
Only three months after the original release, AJF announced the cigar’s followup—Last Call Maduro. Where the originals utilized an Ecuador Habano wrapper over Nicaraguan fillers, the Maduro showcases a more gritty, Pennsylvania Broadleaf-seed Nicaraguan leaf over Nicaraguan filler.
"The Last Call Maduro highlights the unique flavors and sweet notes found in A.J. ‘s Nicaraguan Pennsylvania Broadleaf wrapper. Fans of the original Last Call Geniales, will enjoy this medium to full body cigar, one that is the perfect representation of a Nicaraguan Puro."
—Ricky Somoza, (former) Vice President of AJF Cigar Co.
Both cigars were originally planned to use the 4½″ × 48 “Geniales” rothschild size, but have now expanded to encompass a range of 5 vitolas.
